Original autograph manuscript of Whitman's notes for a poem about "a perfect school." On the verso are lines, beginning "The three or four poets are well," that were included, in a revised form, in Whitman's poem "To Think of Time," first published without a title in the 1855 edition of Leaves of Grass, as "Burial Poem" in 1856, "Burial" in 1860 and 1867, and under its final title in 1871.
